Why a mini-split, and when not to
A mini-split is the right answer when one part of the house is the problem. Extending ducts into a converted garage or a room built onto the back usually costs more than a mini-split and works worse, because the original system was never sized to carry it.
The equipment is genuinely better at part load than central air. An inverter compressor ramps up and down rather than switching on and off, so it holds a temperature within a degree, runs at a level you can talk over, and pulls moisture out of the air for hours at a time instead of in short bursts. In a Carolina August that second point is what you actually feel.
It is the wrong answer when the whole house is uncomfortable. If four rooms are wrong, the ductwork or the central system is the thing to fix, and we will say so rather than selling four heads.
A mini-split usually suits

How the install goes

Look at the room
Size, glazing, insulation and how it is used decide the capacity. Getting this wrong is the one way a mini-split disappoints.

Agree the placement
Where the head goes inside and where the condenser sits outside — both decided with you standing there, because you are the one who has to look at it.

Run the line set
One three-inch penetration carries refrigerant, condensate and power. Interior runs are boxed neatly; exterior runs get a proper line-hide, not tape.

Commission it
Vacuum the line set, weigh in the charge, verify superheat and subcooling, and set the remote up the way you will use it.
